Me, Myself & I

Casein paint on wooden panel.  26" x 15.25"

Thrown out like jewels across the deep
of velvet black, the open sky,
are stars that twinkle
“I am I” —

Who in primordial prayer keep
the living Cosmos, leavened by
what souls do twinkle
“I am I”.

The stars over New York City can seldom be seen from the city; but approaching it over the bridge at night the stars reveal themselves. As you look, one star after another glows in brightness then dims, then others glow and dim. It seems like each one is declaring its presence in the universe. I wondered if, like stars, people glow more intensely in the moments they declare their presence to the universe.
